Relational therapy to support your inner wisdom
"We are built for connection, and nothing is more important to our well-being and health than deep and meaningful relatedness."
—Irvin Yalom
I named my practice Wisdom Within because I believe in the reservoir of knowledge that each of us hold within ourselves.
As a relational therapist, I believe the interaction between the therapist and client is the most powerful in helping the client tap in to their unique wisdom, compass, values and autonomy. The relational home in therapy can be defined as a dynamic process built on connection, attunement, emotional safety, and a sense of belonging. As we explore your story and goals together, the relationship can serve as a reparative experience to mend wounds and increase personal empowerment.
In session, I may ask open ended questions, ask permission to explore topics, follow your lead and preferences, and provide feedback. I often find humor helpful to navigate life and use as appropriate. People have told me they feel trust, acceptance and calmness when sharing their stories with me and as a professional counselor, I do not take this lightly. I strive to create a sacred therapy space and relationship so that you can focus on feeling more secure in yourself. Client wellbeing and safety are paramount and are the tenets of my practice.
Some Ways I Work With Clients
-
Attachment Based
Attachment-focused therapy helps individuals mend the effects of insecure or disrupted relationships by building healthier, more secure emotional connections. By establishing a safe therapeutic alliance, we can explore how past attachment experiences influence current relationships, emotions, and behaviors.
Through this process, clients develop greater self-awareness, strengthen trust and communication, address unresolved trauma, heal unresolved attachment wounds, and learn healthier coping strategies. The goal is to foster secure, fulfilling relationships and improve overall emotional well-being.
-
Trauma Informed
I believe that trauma begins when the impact of an event ruptures and degrades a person’s sense of themself. I practice from a trauma informed perspective meaning I work at your pace, adjust our work to meet your individual needs, and encourage your autonomy, independence and wholeness. My hopes are to help restore a secure sense of self so that you believe in your abilities to carry your story forward.
-
Somatic and Walking
Somatic therapy is a “bottom up” approach, meaning a focus on the body’s sensations and nervous system responses versus a “top down” approach used in talk therapy. I enjoy using breath work and gentle physical movement to release and ground in session and share somatic resources to continue using outside of the office. I also love walking with clients which has been proven to relax the therapy experience, benefit from the exposure to outdoors and engage the body in bilateral stimulation.
-
Brainspotting
I am Level 2 trained in Brainspotting, a regulating mind-body based therapy that helps clients process overwhelming experiences and is based on the neuroscience that “where you look affects how you feel.” We work together to locate a “brain spot” or eye position that connects to emotions or a body sensation. By allowing mindful exposure to those responses the brain can engage in its natural ability to create new pathways for responding and resolving issues.
