The Therapeutic Process

Consultation
I provide a free 15 minute consultation in person or through phone/telehealth where we generally discuss your therapeutic concerns and initially determine if it feels like a good path to move forward. If we determine that your needs may be better suited by a different professional, I am happy to help with developing referrals.

Initial Session
This is usually a 60-90 minute getting to know each other appointment and is a deeper exploration into concerns you would like to explore in therapy. We will explore what is happening in your life now, relevant history, relationships, challenges and strengths. You don’t have to know what to say or exactly what you want to work on. I’ll ask questions and we’ll figure it out together.

Ongoing Sessions
The process of therapy is unique for each individual and involves co-creating goals to be addressed (also known as a treatment plan). These goals are malleable and are adjusted as needed. We may slow things down, explore current stressors, find ways to approach things differently or change course. In my experience, there isn’t a determined amount of time to meet goals or a particular way of “doing therapy right”, and we check in regularly on how you feel the process is going.
